Anies has been working in the field since 1994 (on and off) and has an MSc in Archaeological Science from the Institute of Archaeology, London, specialising in the analysis of microscopic plant remains called phytoliths. He has worked at a variety of places – inlcuding the UK, Iceland, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Peru, Belize, Croatia and Bosnia – and has an interest in “Applied Archaeology”. Essentially, this relates to how the study of the archaeological record can be used in the real world, as opposed to simply being a discipline in its own right. However, he seems to spend most of his time on building sites working in contract archaeology these days.
Anies is one of the site supervisors at Prescot Street. This means he will be looking after the less experienced excavators on site and making sure that work is done to the best possible standard.
