Truncation is a term used to describe the cutting away of an archaeological deposit or structure. Archaeologists use the word as a verb:

The layer is truncated by the pit

and as a noun:

Dig out the fill from that big modern truncation

Archaeologists tend to use the term to mean modern damage to underlying archaeology, but it may also refer to any cutting event in antiquity.
