Description

    • Main fill of pit [1213]. This was the main fill in a medium sized pit. Within (1212) was two (and maybe remains of a third) Roman pottery vessels (1222) found and below remains of a skull and other bones (1254). Unsure if the other bones were human though

Description

  • Moderately compact
  • Dark grey to black
  • silt
  • Moderate charcoal, moderate pebbles mostly to the east part, occasional burnt bone, occasional bone
  • Thickness: c0.4m
  • A lot of Roman pottery was found in the fill. A smaller concentration of pebbles were located in the east part. One the surface it was square shaped but the pit turned out irregular; Sample No. 77
  • Excavated by mattock and trowel in dry conditions
