- dark brownish grey and mixed brownish red
- Sandy silt (20:80) with very frequent lenses of coarse sand and gravel
- Occasional pot, moderate charcoal and very rounded to angular flint pebbles (up to 0.10m)
- 1.3m NS, 1.25m EW, 0.25m thick
- Backfill of roman pit [1238]--- Sealed by mixed layer recorded by David Ross and removed by machine
