- Metalled surface- Roman. (1443) could possibly have functioned as some sort of yard surface. Its full extension is unknown because of truncations to N and W. However, it could extend to the West (of the western wall truncation)- It looks very similar. The surface appears to slope down towards east, and it could have stretched further north.

- Very high frequency of angular, sub angular, and rounded small stones c.80-85%, and pebbles c. 10-15%. sandy clay
- Occa inclusions of CBM materials
- Length: c.5.5m, Width: c. 2.2m, Thickness: 0.27m
- (1443) has been truncated by Victorian walls to N and W by a pit [1454] in the NW corner, by a soakaway [1335] and a modern piling hole. A dark brown layer overlays this surface
- Very dry
