Description
-
- 517 is not a posthole or a cut, it is a post pipe. 517 contained a large piece of wood (519) which had degraded to form fill 518 & post pipe 517. When digging the backfill 515 (within which 517 resides) there was an air pocket at a higher level than 517 but in the same area - this indicates that the piece of wood had been longer but had degraded quicker at a shallower depth. For plan see sketch on the reverse of sheet 513. Semi-circular shape of 517 suggests the wood was half split.
