- Compacted layer of gravelly-stones providing hardened surface probably laid down intentionally to compensate for the soft fills of the large pits in this area. Might be related to the levelling out of the surface to provide decent ground level.

- Sandy stony gravelly layer, stones mostly medium - course pebbles in size. Moderately sorted.

- Located mostly in grid sq. 500/90 (about 5m sq. area). About 0.30m thick.

- Excavated with mattock, shovel & trowel. Clear & dry, but mostly by machine.
