Basic Interp.
Description
- Soft and sticky
- Dark grey and light brown
- On top-clayish sand; closer to bottom more small pebbles in the fill
- Small flecks of charcoal, occasionally
- width: 1m, length: c.1.35m, thickness: c.0.45m
- (858)[859] is located just north of another pit [846]. Roman pottery was found in the fill. Has been truncated by modern drain activity; sketch/levels overleaf
- Excavated in dry conditions with mattock and trowel
