Basic Information

  • Refuse pit

Sub Groups

  • Sub Group: PCO06_612
    • Cut and fill of pit

Group Description

    • In an area of heavy truncation, underlying the modern overburden lay (1760) a brickearth layer that overlay (1769), a further layer of dirty redeposited brick earth. These layers were seen as capping layers, with (1769) overlying (1960), a relatively barren fill of pit cut [1961] that was dug into the natural gravels of the site area, and it is this group that forms group 250. Flecks of CBM and charcoal were found within (1960), along with occasional pieces of bone; this mix indicates that the feature was a refuse pit.
