- Pit cut [1889] was dug into (1771), the fill of possible ring ditch or building foundation [1770]. Two slots dug through the ring ditch, the excavation of which recovered finds of pot, bone, slag, and CBM. The excavation revealed that the cut was straight sided but sloping inwards 4cm from the base, giving the inner side a smooth and concave to base, while the outer side was noted to be more vertical. The from of this cut was unusual for a Roman foundation cut, which would typically be square or rectangular in form. Therefore, if this was a foundation for a cemetery structure, this feature could be a sign of pre-Roman activities surviving into the Roman period. Cut [1770] was cut into (1772), (1787), and (1849).

Dating Information

- The datable material recovered from the fills of this ring ditch has been dated to 120-140AD. However stratigraphically the feature has to be dated later to the Roman IV period, and so these finds are seen as residual.
