Subgroup Narrative Text

- Pit cut [1461] was cut into (1580), a layer that appeared to have been dumped rather than formed through gradual accretion. Context (1580) overlay (1589), a Roman brickearth layer, again seen as a dumped deposit, rather than having been built up gradually. Instead it is probably deposited to firm up and level unevenly subsided ground, so a leveling deposit. Layer (1589) sealed (1658)=(1653) the backfill of Roman pit [1659]=[1654].
