Group Description
-
- This group consists of a series of refuse pits. Layer (1403) overlay (1464), the mixed fill of oval pit [1465], that was cut into (1480), the fill of pit cut [1481]. The mixed nature of this fill indicate it to be a refuse pit. Pit cut [1481], that was cut into (1504), the fill of pit cut [1505], that was cut into the natural gravels of the site area. Layer (1403) also sealed (1541) the mixed refuse fill of pit cut [1542], which was dug into (1543) the fill of pit cut [1544], that in turn was cut into the natural gravels of the site area. Cut [1434] was dug into (1552), the fill of shallow depression/cut [1553], that was dug into the natural. The fill of this pit was mixed and so was probably a refuse pit, but the pit was heavily truncated.

Dating Information
-
- Not all of the features in this group produced datable finds, but the majority of those recovered were dated to 120-160AD. Four pot sherds were recovered from fill (1541), all of which were dated to 150-400AD, and although there is some overlap with these two sets of dates, it is likely that if the later sherds are towards the latter end of their date scale then they are intrusive.
