- Back fill of quarry pit [882]
Group Description
-
- Underlying gravel capping layers (809) and (810) was (881), the mixed fill of quarry pit cut [882]. It was predominantly gravel and sands, although there were lenses of clayey silt which was at its thickest at the bottom and to the south of the quarry pit. This could indicate that the pit was left open for some time after its excavation, and erosional and water based activities acted to back fill the pit. The pit was heavily truncated and the fill was remarkably sterile.
