Basic Information

  • Quarry pit cut

Sub Groups

  • Sub Group: PCO06_543
    • Backfill of quarry pit [1791]

Group Description

    • Cuts [1796], [1799], and [1815] were all dug into (1790), the back fill of quarry pit [1791]. The back fill contained two possible redeposited cremations amongst a mix of refuse waste dumped into the pit. This indicated that the material used to fill in and level off the pit were dug from within the area of the cemetery. The cut itself was an irregular shape due the heavy truncation. Cut [1791] was dug into pit fills (1788) and (1818).

Dating Information

    • A total of 15 pot sherds were recovered from the fill of this quarry pit, all of which were dated to 100-120AD. However these are seen as residual, because stratigraphically the pit is much later.
