Sub Groups
Group Description
-
- Pit cut [1765] was dug into (2051) (sub-group 578), a redeposited brick-earth that was seen as a leveling deposit, that overlay (2052), the sterile pit fill of [2053]. Recorded as (330) in the evaluation. Underlying (2051), a redeposited brick earth, was a series of inter-cutting Roman pits, including (2052) (sub-group 577), the fill of [2053] which was cut into (2077), the fill of [2078]. The size and form of [2053] indicated that it was a gravel extraction pit, while the mixed nature of the fill indicated that it was a refuse deposit, used to back fill the area affected by the excavation of the quarry pit.
