Group Description

- Underlying (2051), a redeposited brick earth, was a series of inter-cutting Roman pits, including (2052), the fill of [2053] (this cut forms group 253) which was cut into (2077), the fill of [2078]. The size and form of [2053] indicated that it was a gravel extraction pit, while the mixed nature of the fill indicated that it was a refuse deposit, used to back fill the area affected by the excavation of the quarry pit.
