Group Description
-
- A series of Post Medieval drainage features were inter-connected in the west of the site area, but had been subject to truncation, and it is assumed that associated building rubble dump (568) was derived from this truncation. Of these features context {110}={700} formed an unfrogged red brick and limestone boulders drainage run, with the limestone roughly dressed and the bricks laid in stretcher coursing. It fed into [862], the base of a well, horizontally truncated and roughly rectangular 0.2m (N-S) x 1.2m (E-W) x 0.45m (deep), which was filled with (863), a silty clay fill, indicating that it was water lain. This was associated with (668) was the latest backfill of soak-away {666}. Under (668) was (669), a probable in wash deposit, and this overlay (670), a mix of silts. This overlay {736}, a layer of bricks lain over the primary fill (737) of soak-away {666}. Context {736} was lain within {666} to act as feature to aid the drainage of water from the soak-away without the hindrance of silt, deliberately lain respective of the structure of {666} but obviously not as an original part of the structure. Therefore showing it to have different periods of use. Drain {700} was also a later edition that fed into soak-away {666}. This soak-away was built into construction cut [667], which was dug into Post Medieval soil (549).
