- Cut [1863] was cut into (1866), the latest fill of pit cut [1868], that was also filled by primary fill (1867). Deposit (1866) was seen as a later capping deposit, used to level off the area of the land affected by the excavation of pit [1868]. Fill (1867) was seen as a slumped deposit. Cut [1867] dug into the natural gravels of the site area, and was one of the earliest features in this area of the site.

Dating Narrative

- No datable finds were recovered from the lower fill of this pit, the later back fill (1866) did produce two pot sherds broadly dated to 50-400AD. Stratigraphically this pit is seen as Roman II.
