We have had metal detectorists with us on site for nearly two months now. So who are they?
Well, the Society of Thames Mudlarks and in 1976 by a small groups of enthusiasts after consultation with the Port of London Authority and the Museum of London. A permit system was introduced that allowed members to search the north bank of the River Thames. They currently have a membership of 50, and meet six times a year for talks from various museums.
Since 1976, the Society has worked with archaeologists on a number of sites in and around London. The Society has a close working relationship with staff at the Museum of London. Many of the artifacts recovered by the Society fo Mudlarks and Antiquarians can be found on display at the Museum of London and have been included in Museum of London publications.
