Field Archaeologists work on excavations – they dig, record and monitor evidence for the past. But not all archaeologists dig holes. There are many different areas of archaeology in which people work and roughly 5000 people work as archaeologists in the UK today. This is the basement of a Victorian building. It was demolished and the cellar was filled in. We dug out the cellar using a machine and then we dug our trench through the concrete basement floor.
